After that we become capable to present this project in front of you. EXECUTIVE SUMMERY Descon is the one of the leading company in project based business to business market in Pakistan. This summery is all about the Human Resource Department of Descon Engineering Company. We will discuss about the introduction of Descon in first chapter. The second chapter will tell us about the structure of HR Department in Descon. The third chapter shows planning and job analyzing steps in the department. The fourth chapter will help us to know about selection and recruitment of procedures. The fifth chapter is all about training and Development through implementation and Evaluation. Sixth chapter will creates a knowledge how Descon conduct its Performance Appraisal System. The second last chapter defines the compensation management. And the last chapter explains how this department handles the disputes and procurement procedures. DEDICATION: We dedicate this project to our Parents, sweet cousins and friends.

Reflection on Assessment of Asthmatic Patient

In this essay, I need to reflect on the situation that taken place during my clinical assignment to develop and utilize my experiences on the assessment and intervention of asthmatic patient in my work place. In this reflection, I am going to use Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle. This model is a recognised framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988) consists of six stages to complete one cycle which is able to improve my healthcare practices continuously and learning from the experience for better practice in the future. The cycle starts with a description of the situation, next is the analysis of the feelings, third is an evaluation of the experience, fourth stage is an analysis to make sense of the experience, fifth stage is a conclusion of what else could I have done and final stage is an action plan to prepare if the situation arose again (NHS, 2006). Baird and winter (2005, p. 156) gave some reasons why reflection is required in the reflective practice. They state that a reflection is to generate the practice knowledge, assist an ability to adapt new situations, develop self-esteem and satisfaction as well as to value, develop and professionalizing practice. However, Siviter (2004, p. 165) explain that reflection is about gaining self-confidence, identify when to improve, learning from own mistakes and behaviour, looking at other people perspectives, being self-aware and improving the future by learning the past. In my contact with the patient, it was important for me to establish a very good rapport which is the healthcare professional – patient relationship. There was a good mutual understanding exists between me and Mrs. A established from a sense of trust (Harkreader and Hogan, 2004, p. 243). Ruesch (1961) mentioned the purpose of the good communication is to improve the patient’s ability to function. According to Kathol (2003) healthcare provider must show up caring, sincerity, empathy and trustworthiness in order to build a warm relationship with patient. Those attitudes could be expressed by promoting the effective communication and relationships by the implementation of interpersonal skills. Thus, My reflection is about one patient whom I code her as Mrs. A, not a real name to protect the confidentiality of patient’s information (NMC, 2004). Description of the situation In this paragraph I would describe on the event that took place in assessing and provision of intervention to asthmatic patient in my work place. I was on a ward when Mrs. A was brought to the Accident & Emergency unit. She was a 76 years old been diagnosed of asthma. Mrs. A complainted of shortness of breath with audible wheezing. She could not walk herself and need to be assisted if she wanted to stand or walk. Her past medical history revealed diabetic and high blood pressure. Patient has taken her prescribed medication of ventolin at home without relief of symptom before coming to the Accident & Emergency. She was accessed and physical examination show the following: Respiratory rate 30, Heart rate 110, blood pressure 140/90, temperature 36. 2, and saturation 87. Auscultation reveals decreased breath sounds. Peak flow done before and after treatment was 125/250. Mrs. A was also coughing up small amount of sputum. Feelings In this paragraph, I would discuss on my feelings or thinking that took place in the event that happened. Before I started the assessment, I introduced myself and approached Mrs. A. So I tried to build a good rapport with her as I do not want her to feel strange as I was not her family members or her relatives. My first approach to her was to ask whether she wanted to take her lunch. She was on soft diet as she was having a difficulty in swallowing. Then I asked her permission to feed her. She looked at me and the pain was there. In this situation, I showed up my empathy as I put myself in her shoes and assuming I was having a breathing problem. According to Wold (2004, p73) empathy is about the willingness to understand the other person not just judging the person’s fact. Then, I touched her shoulder, kept saying, and raise my tone a bit because I was afraid if she had a hearing trouble. I was reassuring her she will be fine. In the meantime, I was thinking whether the English language was not her mother tongue but I kept myself communicate verbally with her including using my body gesturers and facial expression. Body gesturers and facial expressions are referred as a non-verbal communication (Funnell et al, 2005, p. 443). I thought of the language barrier that breaks our verbal communication. Castledine (2002, p. 923) mention that the language barrier arises when there are individuals comes from a different social background use their own slang or phrases in the conversations. Luckily, those particular body gesturers could make her understand that I was going to assess her. During the assessment I maintained the eye contact as I do not want her to feel shy. This is supported by Caris-Verhallen et al (1999) which mentioned that the direct of eye contact could express a sense of interest in the person to the other person involves in that communication. As a result, she gave a good cooperation and was very happy for the assessment until finished. Evaluation Developing my skills on assessment and intervention of asthmatic patient particularly an adult has been very challenging but rewarding. My learning style was kinaesthetic where I actually carried out physical activity in my work place. I was eager to try and explore the theory into practice by assessing Mrs. A under the supervision of a registered nurse. As a busy department it was difficult to get a nurse to supervise me, but the nurses were doing everything possible to make their selves available whenever I needed their help. The registered nurse asked me to assess Mrs A, at first I wasn’t confident because that was my first patient to assess. However, the more time I spent with Mrs A, the better I become. I was anxious to put theory into action by carrying out the assessment and taken part in the intervention. I took the challenge to revise the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system. This was very helpful in understanding the changes in anatomy and physiology of a patient with asthma. The study deepened my confidence in demonstrating competences in carrying out assessment and dvising patients with asthma on the use of nebuliser. These skills have enabled me to know how to reassure patient when they come in with asthma attack. I have also developed the new skills to understand more about the trigger of asthma, symptoms, causes and intervention. It was also as my duty to feed Mrs A so that I could make sure the patient get the best care in the ward. Burnard (1990) and Stein-Parbury (1993) define attending to patient as a patient-centred process as wells as to fulfil the basic conditions as a healthcare professional to provide the genuineness, warmth and empathy towards the patient. I was able to improve my verbal and non-verbal communication skills in my conversation with her during the assessment as she was having a hearing problem and could not communicate in English language properly, so the non-verbal communication plays a role. Caris-Verhallen et al (1999, p. 809) state that the non-verbal communication becomes important when communicating with the elderly people who develop a hearing problem. Hollman et al (2005, p31) suggests some effective ways to maximize the communication with hearing impairment people such as always to gains the person’s attention before speaking, make yourself visible to prevent them feel frighten and try to use some sensitive touch. I feel this is a good experience to me because I learn to develop my verbal and non-verbal communication particularly. Furthermore, I also used my facial expressions to advise her when I finish. During meal time, she withdraws the meal after few seconds but I smiled and assured Mrs. A that it was good for her health to finish her meal. Therefore my facial expression worked out to encourage her to finish the meal. Although I could not explain detail to her about the important nutrition diet that she should take, but I could advocate her to finish the meal served because the meal was prepared according to her condition. I am also particularly impressed because I am now more experienced and confident in reassuring my patient and hence achieving my goal. Analysis In order to analyse the situation, I would add that my communication skills were very important to provide the best care to Mrs. A. My communication with Mrs. A was the interpersonal communication. This is because the interpersonal communication is a communication which involved of two persons (Funnell et al 2005, p. 438). I realized that my nonverbal communication did also help me a lot in my duty to provide the care to Mrs. A. Even though she could understand few simple English words when I was asking her some questions but I noticed that one of the problems occurs within the communication was the language barrier. Another was I could not get consent to assess and recommend treatment from Mrs A at first because she was on pain and did not want to speak. White (2005, p. 12) recommended that a healthcare professional should learn a few words or phrases in the predominant second language to put a patient at ease for better understanding. Moreover, though the registered nurses were able to help but due to the high demand of the nurses, it was not very easy to get nurse to supervise me initially because the department was very busy. Although, it was quite difficult because I am not allowed to assess patient without supervision but this really encouraged me to work very hard. She nodded her head to assign that she agreed with me or she was given me consent. In addition, Mrs. A also gave me a feedback that she understood my message by transmitting the message via her body gestures and eye behaviour. Delaune and Ladner (2002, p. 191) state a feedback is that the sender receives the information after the receiver react to the message. In a nutshell, my reflection explores my experiences in asthmatic patient intervention and assessment especially the adult. I was concern about my feeling and thoughts during the assessment so that I could improve more skills in my communication and confident. I successfully communicated with her effectively as she cooperated till the end of the assessment. So it was vital to build good rapport with her to encourage her ability to speak up verbally and non-verbal. Moreover, this ability could help her to communicate effectively with other staff nurses. She would not be neglected because of her age or her disability to understand the information given about her treatment. Hyland and Donaldson (1989), mention that communication expresses what the patients think and feel. In order to communicate with Mrs A, it was important to assess her common communication language and her ability to interact in the other languages. In my opinion, I evaluated that it does not matter whether it was a patient-centred communication or task-centred communication because both communication mentioned by McCabe (2004) actually does involves communication to the patients. So it was not a problem to argue which type of communication involves in my conversation with my patient. After I analysed the situation, I could conclude that I was able to know the skills for effective communication with the patient such as Mrs A, for example, active listening, concentration, empathy and support the patient emotions (Walsh, 2005, p. 34). Action Plan My action plan for the clinical practice in the future, if there were asthmatic patients that I need to help to assess and provide any medical intervention, I would prepare myself better to handle with the patients who would have some difficulty in communication. This is because, as one of the health care worker, I want the best care for my patients. So in related to deliver the best care to my patients, I need to understand them very well. I have to communicate effectively as this is important to know what they need most under my supervision as a Clinical assistant practitioner. According to my experience, I knew that communication was the fundamental part to develop a good relationship. Wood (2006, p. 13) express that a communication is the key foundation of relationship. Therefore a good communication is essential to get know the patient’s individual health status (Walsh, 2005, p. 30). Active listening could distinguish the existence of barrier communication when interacting with the patients. This is because, active listening means listening without making judgement to listen to the patients’ opinions or complaints which give me chances to be in the patients’ perspective (Arnold, 2007, p. 01). On the other hand, it is also crucial to avoid the barriers occurred in the communication with Mrs A. However, I would remind myself to be confident when dealing with the patient. I would make sure I remind myself not to assume or guess what my patient may have in mind. Walsh (2005) argued that making stereotyping and making assumptions about pa tients, perceptions and having first impression of patients and lack of awareness of communication skills are the main barriers in providing better care to patient. I must not judge the patients by making my first impression and assumption about the patients but I have to make patients feel valued as an individual. I should be capable to respect their fundamental values, beliefs, culture (Heath, 2000). I would be able to know on how to build rapport with the patients. There are eleven ways suggest by Crellin (1998, p. 49) which are becomes visible, anticipate needs, be reliable, listening, stay in control, self-disclosure, care for each patient as an individual, use humour when appropriate, educate the patient, give the patient some control, and use gestures to show some supports. This ways could help and give me some guidelines to improve my medical practice with patients. Another important thing to add on my action plan list is to know which the disabilities of the patients have such as hearing disability, visual impairment and mental disability. Once I could know the disability that a patient has, I could well-prepared my method of providing health care more effectively. To summarize for my action plan, I would start a communication with a good rapport to know what affects the patients’ ability to communicate well and to avoid barriers in effective communication in future. Conclusion In conclusion of my reflective essay, I mentioned the model that I chose, Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle as my framework of my reflective. The reason for choosing the model as well as some discussion on the important of doing reflection in medical practice. I am able to discuss every stage in the Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle about my ability to develop my experience in the assessment and intervention of asthmatic patient.

“Inevitable vs. Amendable” Essay

The film â€Å"Inequality for All† tries to explain; what is the current status of the distribution of wealth and that of income equality? Why this is happening and if this is a problem. Yes, as stated in the film, social inequality is inevitable. But, there is without a doubt a problem with United States distribution of wealth. One of the facts that really opened my eyes was the fact that the 400 richest Americans, together hold more wealth than the poorest 150 million Americans have together. This said, it is scary to think about how obscure was the knowledge we had on the one percent with given how much economic influence they have. The minimum wages vs. growth of productivity graph is one that I found very interesting. Why is â€Å"just† in today’s society to be part a more productive workforce that gets paid less than the workforce we had a few decades ago? The line graph for productivity growth is rising every year, meaning that more work is being done. On the other hand, the minimum wages growth rates were rising but after a while they seem to have plateau and they have been like this for about 30 years. Advances in globalization and technology are also inevitable because it is simple economics that a product shall be produced in the cheapest way possible. Yes, technology does create jobs but as we see in the film companies like Amazon are also opting to operate with high tech machinery instead of the traditional assembly line. Women going to work, general workforce working for longer hours and borrowing money from the financial sectors are coping mechanisms that the middle class used to keep up with their good lifestyles, but in my opinion these are more like defense mechanisms in order to survive in the concrete jungle with the same wages they had 30 years ago. One other comparison that I liked was how the widening inequality leads to a deficiency cycle and when the wealth is equally distributed economic stability is transfused from sector to sector creating a domino effect leading to a virtuous cycle.

Human Resources Management Essay There exist major differences between the Brunei HRM compared to HRM in the western world. In the western world, the governments are mainly democratic. The business or the private sector is not in any way under the direction of the government or an individual. However, the Brunei government is a monarchy where the Sultan is the absolute decision maker both for the private and public sector. Given the differences in the political system, these changes are bound to affect the practices that HRM adapts in either country (Pieper, 1990). However, the differences are not just political; there exist major cultural differences between the western countries and that of Brunei. As previously established, the culture in a country manifests itself in the HR practices. Although the Brunei system is open to some extent, it cannot compare to the level of openness that is practiced in the western world. The Brunei system is one where superiors are held in awe, and their word is final. However, the HRM practice in the west is such that there is a lot of decentralization of power to individuals and to institutions. There are no powerful superiors, and thus the supervisor is almost the equal to the employee. The hiring and firing are also very controlled since employees have unions which are very powerful. In the public sector, the Brunei HRM policies are guided by the circulars from the Sultan. However, western governments public bodies have pre-designed HRM policies. The policies are either set by the board, or the HR manager in consultation with the CEO. Each public body is established through legislation. In the West, the government or the head of state cannot direct a public body on how to recruit or fire unless the legislative arm of government makes such a law (Pichault and Schoenaers, 2003). Another area of divergence is on the level of adoption of technology. Western HR practices have fully adopted technology in their operations. While Brunei HRM struggles to empower their employees on the use of technology, the labor force in the west has already adopted the technology, and is well-versed in the use of it. The HRM in the west is vary familiar with and has incorporated technology in such duties as log-in checker, benefits and loan applications (Laughton, 2012). An employee in the west will just need to log in using a given password and can then access the HR from anywhere in the world. In the western countries, there is a lot of individualism which is reflected in the HRM practices. The Brunei culture is more of collective in form, and this also manifests itself in the HRM practices. For example, there are no strong interpersonal relationships in the western HRM, unlike in Brunei. In Brunei, the family and relationship bonds are very strong, and this often leads to favoritism. The western countries are rarely affected by nepotism (Carr and Pudelko, 2006). The hiring process is extremely monitored and competitive such that only the best are qualified. In most organizations within the west, hiring is done by external professionals who are hired to do the job. Therefore, it means that the hiring company will rarely have any familiarity with the prospective employees, especially at a personal level. However, the Brunei HRM is such that the managers in the company do the hiring. Although the process may be transparent, it is possible for managers to favor a participant if they happen to know him or her (Bond, 1988). Moreover, given the absolute power vested on the Sultan, the Sultan may hire a person informally. In such a case, the HRM would have been left out of the loop, yet they would not have any power over it. The divergence here is that, in a western country, the executive absolutely has no power over the hiring of employees. The HR manager is free to make any decisions within his mandate. In terms of complaints and disagreement, the HRM approaches are very different. The Brunei monarch has absolute powers in all areas of decision making. Employees have no power to contest the decisions of the monarch. Furthermore, although the monarchy sometimes consults the stakeholders in decision making, he does not have to under the law. On the other hand, HRM practices must be in accordance with the law which requires public participation. Employees have the power, through their trade unions to contest any decisions they feel are not made in their best interests (Norihito, 2007). The Brunei monarch is also the head of the judiciary. However, the western countries have industrial courts and the arbitration panel that is impartial. This is aimed at adjudicating on such matters.

Case Study Templeton hardware Executive Summary This report provides an analysis on the case study of Templeton hardware and its acquisition of the two companies, namely lodestone landscapes and the great outdoors. Through this case study of Templeton hardware, it can be seen that the acquisition of this two companies have had its detrimental effects, therefore requiring the need to accurately identify the source problems. Three toolkits are used in this report to diagnose the issues that are present. They are namely SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats), six thinking hats and brainstorming. They secured a significant portion of the market share and had the capability to acquire two established companies. Templeton Hardware had a constant growth vision to expand and diversify its companys products and to enter different market segments to make it more profitable. Part of its growth vision required decisions which had adverse effects and Templeton Hardwares willingness to take the risk to acquire the two companies can be considered a strength. Templeton Hardwares decision to offer jobs to the franchisees shows the necessary measures taken to retain employees and keep them in employment without retrenching them. 2.1.2 Weaknesses Weaknesses are internal aspects that could possibly endanger the business or obstruct further economic growth (Mindtools, 1996). Insufficient market research and lack of foresight led to a decline in sales targets and failing to achieve its profit expectations. The loss of product exclusivity resulted in Templeton Caravans not being able to attract its primary target audience, essentially the baby boomers, whom were perceived as having the capital and mindset to purchase caravans. Templeton Caravans had clearly failed to understand the trends, mindset and spending patterns of baby boomers and that led to dissatisfaction and avoidance. By outsourcing the projects it had received, Templeton Landscape Solutions managed its talents poorly and overall service standards dropped. The company as a whole saw negative survey comments and this poor feedback started to feed its growing unfavourable reputation. The organisation also had ineffective management of its resources and had not been hiring enough staff to ensure work ran efficiently in the optimum manner. 2.1.3 Opportunities Opportunities are external aspects that an organisation can use to its advantage to improve existing conditions (The Economic Times, 2014). Templeton Hardware should first look into achieving a good financial position which would improve its declining reputation and would enable it to secure bank loans for future investments. It should also look into sending its employees and management executives for team building activities and to increase the cohesiveness among them. By providing its staff with the relevant skills, its workforce can be effectively managed and relevant departments could have job specialists who have broad knowledge on their job scope. This helps to reduce the role ambiguity among its staff since an employee is assigned to few specific tasks and not many interdepartmental roles. Templeton Hardware could also invest in technological infrastructure to improve its customer management system. Employees can then follow up with clients in a more efficient manner and this removes the need for clients to repeat themselves which dealing with different. During meetings, everyone present would have to put on different hats and approach the problems from different perspectives. This notion allows organizations to diagnose issues effectively, make better decisions and come up with creative ideas (De Bono Consulting, 2000). There is no one best approach to using the six thinking hats with reference to which hat should be used first. 2.2.1 White Thinking Hat This hat is used to gather information that is required to address the issue at hand. Data is presented objectively without the presence of arguments and beliefs. The annoyance and dissatisfaction among customers was evident through the feedback received and the baby boomers were disappointed with the lack of exclusivity of the caravans. 2.2.3 Black Thinking Hat This hat helps to identify complications and limitations in a situation and helps to steer the organization into the right path. (Mercier Associates, 2012). The lack of market research conducted prior to the two acquisitions and the overconfidence of the board led to the downfall of Templeton Hardware. The board was not prepared for failure and there was no contingency plans in the event of a failure. Templeton Hardware did not understand the spending trends and mindset of their target audience, namely the baby-boomers, which led to the outlook of low brand exclusivity. Templeton Hardware can improve productivity and time management standards by looking at how other companies operate. Some of the key objectives would be to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company, improving the job security of employees so as to prevent the shortage of manpower, improving customer satisfaction by sending the employees for training and lastly to regain a bigger piece of the market share in order to have a competitive edge over the new competitor. Templeton Hardware can reach these objectives by adopting a change in management. The staff should also be briefed about the challenges during and after the change (Holley et al, 2011). In addition, the creation of a clear company vision would better inform its employees of the company’s core values. The employees felt overworked and were unsure of their own job scope as they had been tasked with interdepartmental duties. Through investments in technological infrastructure and by adopting a customer centric structure, it can enhance its customer management system. Stigma in Mental Illness: Causes and Impacts This chapter will examine the term stigma and discuss the negative attitudes that the public hold towards mental health and mental illness and suggest why they may have adopted these views and attitudes. It will also address the medias role in portraying these views and sustaining these attitudes towards mental illness. An enormous number of individuals are affected by mental illness worldwide: the World Health Organization (WHO) (2001) has estimated that 1 in 5 persons will suffer from a mental illness each year. A question that could be asked if mental illness is a dominant and prevalent issue within society today why do people still hold these negative views and attitudes within society? Finally the chapter will conclude by making some recommendations for practice, ways that stigma can be reduced and how mental health and mental illness can be portrayed in a more positive light. To fully appreciate the views and attitudes towards mental illness it is important to understand the concept of stigma. Stigma is derived from the Greek for a mark branded on a slave or criminal (White, 1998). Goffmans (1963) seminal work on stigmatization has, over the years, stimulated a great variety of educational discussion on the nature, sources, and effects of stigma (Link and Phelan, 2001). According to Goffman (1963) stigma is a physical or psychological mark of disgrace that makes an individual stand out from society. Three types of stigmatizing marks identified by Goffman include, Abominations of the body, tribal stigma, and blemishes of individual character (Goffman, 1963, pg 14). People who encompass these physical or psychological marks are often devalued and dehumanised which consequently leads to their position within society being corrupted by the distressing effects of stigmatization (Goffman, 1963). A definition that can be seen to encompass all aspects alongside Goffman is offered by Miles (1981) cited in Brunton (1997) who says, Societal reaction which singles out certain attributes evaluates them as an undesirable and devalues the persons who possess them. (p. 892) The suffering and loss of opportunities that seems to always come hand in hand with a diagnosis of mental illness can be seen to be connected to the psychiatric symptoms that can be observed e.g. talking to voices, the decrease in daily functioning, and the dip in a persons social functioning in society (Corrigan and Wassel, 2008). However, the loss of opportunities and the person with a mental illness devaluing their own self worth take place for the reason of the stigma that surrounds mental illness (Corrigan and Kleinlein, 2005). For the purposes of this dissertation negative attitudes refers to discriminatory attitudes that are based on prejudice, stereotypes or inaccurate information. Stereotypes are firmly set judgements that are learnt throughout life and held firmly in our mind (Stier and Hinshaw, 2007). They are discriminating views or images related to members of particular groups (Corrigan and Wassel, 2008). Prejudice effects individuals in an emotional manner (Stier and Hinshaw, 2007) and occurs when people within society have the same opinion about a particular stereotype and affix this to a group of people making negative connotations towards that particular group (Corrigan and Wassel, 2008). Then again, Corrigan and Wassel (2008) state that discriminative behaviour can be seen as a direct result of prejudice. This involves a specific group being treated in a dissimilar way leading to that group not being able to access opportunities available to them or their rights being restricted (Stier and Hin shaw, 2007). Negative attitudes towards people with mental distress may be manifested by physical and verbal abuse, problems in the workplace or discrimination from people who provide services to people with a mental illness (Mind, 2010). Negative attitudes are partly constructed in the language we use to describe mental illness. People with mental distress are often being described in derogatory terms. For example, perpetrators of acts of violence are often described as Lunatics, mad person (Tudor, 1996), schizos, nutters, psychos, fiends, monsters and maniacs (Twomley, 2007). This makes a clear link between violence and mental distress, it must be acknowledged though that not everyone who is violent necessarily has a mental illness. Angermeyer and Schulze (2001) suggest the general public view people with mental illness as bizarre, fear-provoking, impulsive, violent and lack self-discipline. From this, therefore, it could be suggested that people who have a mental illness are deviants or have deviant behaviour. Becker (1963) defines deviance as any trait or behaviour that was abnormal when compared to the average population (pg. ). If mental illness is classed as deviant then how bad does someone have to act or behave to be classed as deviant. This demonstrates that social rules that are made allow people to judge others as different or in this case deviant (Becker, 1963). This is further supported by Baumann (2007) who suggest that the individuals picture of the world is created by comparatively constant norms, principles and expectations. Angermeyer and Matschinger (2005) suggests a diagnosis of schizophrenia has, particularly, been found to be stigmatizing and linked with negative stereotypes such as violence and dangerousness. This shows that by mental health being medicalised it is profoundly unhelpful due to the diagnostic terms such as psychosis which can shackle people to the mental health system (Watkins, 2007). In contrast Shepherd et al (2008) describe the recovery model   as taking ownership and responsibility for an illness and what can and cant be done, focusing on the strengths and issues rather than a diagnosis. This is a reliable source provided by the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health. The recovery model will be discussed more in-depth in chapter three. In other words, the state sought to control all aspects of society, including the economy and allocation of monies to businesses and private citizens and the fixing of prices to promote economic stability. This, however, led to the increase of "black" markets where prices were often inflated and also led to wasteful practices of resource use (Alexashenko, 2-3). The economy of Russia has taken a dramatic turn from this characterization, and has attempted to become an economy characterized by more production control by private sector enterprises with less government involvement (Alexashenko, 3-6).
